| Dr. Zakir Naik: Misquoting & Misleading the Ummah |
|---|
The hadith in question in the above video is in Sahih al-Bukhari 780 (link here).
Can you see the keyword ‘LOUDLY’ in the hadith? It is clearly NOT there.
The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “Say ‘Amin'” when the Imam says it and if the Amin of any one of you coincides with that of the angels then all his past sins will be forgiven.” Ibn Shihab said, “Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) used to Say “Amin.”
Salafi scholar Dr. Zakir Naik states the following in the above video:
As for saying ‘Ameen’ loudly, there is a hadith in Sahih al-Bukhari (Sahih al-Bukhari 780) that Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said, ‘After the finishing of Surah Fatihah, say Ameen loudly.”
So, according to this hadith of Sahih al-Bukhari and Dr. Zakir Naik, saying ‘Amean’ loudly is the correct thing to do. But as you can see, there is no mention of the keyword “LOUDLY”.
And Dr. Zakir Naik clearly knows there is no mention of the word “LOUDLY” in the hadith, as he would have read and checked this hadith many times, but he still uses this hadith to mislead the ummah. His argument is totally incorrect.
Another hadith from Sahih al-Bukhari is below; again, the keyword “LOUDLY” is not in the hadith text.
Hadith Sahih al-Bukhari :: Book 1 :: Volume 12 :: Hadith 749
Narated By Abu Huraira : Allah’s Apostle said, “Say Amen’ when the Imam says “Ghair-il-maghdubi ‘alaihim wala-ddal-lin; not the path of those who earn Your Anger (such as Jews) nor of those who go astray (such as Christians); all the past sins of the person whose saying (of Amin) coincides with that of the angels, will be forgiven.
And again, Dr. Zakir Naik is incorrect. There is no such hadith in all of Sahih al-Bukhari that mentions saying Amean LOUDLY.

So then Dr. Zakir Naik goes on to say that the followers of Imam Abu Hanifa, like Ulama Deoband, should say ‘Ameen’ loudly because there is a hadith to that effect (even though there is NO such hadith in Sahih al-Bukhari that mentions SAY LOUDLY).
How can the followers of Ulama Deoband say Ameen LOUDLY, when there is no such hadith in Sahih al-Bukhari as per Salafi arguments?
In addition, he goes on to say Imam Abu Hanifa also said, ‘If you find a sahih hadith, leave my ruling and follow the sahih hadith.’ Again, this is a deceitful, shady act by Dr. Zakir Naik, as he is trying to mislead us into believing that Imam Abu Hanifa did not know about all the hadiths.
Imam Abu Hanifa had principles when he gave his rulings, and those principles were the Quran & the Sunnah. If anything went against the Quran, he would reject it.
Secondly, Imam Abu Hanifa had the opportunity to meet many of the Sahaba (Companions) (Radiallahu anhum) during his lifetime. Hence, he was also a Tabi’een (one who has met the Sahaba (Radiallahu anhum)). Because of his status as a Tabi’een, Imam Abu Hanifa placed great emphasis on the actions and practices of the Sahaba Radiallahu anhum.
According to Imam Abu Hanifah, the Sahabah (companions of the Prophet ﷺ) did not say ‘amean’ LOUDLY. Therefore, this formed the Sunnah, according to Imam Abu Hanifah.
In addition, there is a hadith.
Shu’ba reports from ‘Alqama ibn Wa’il that:
He [Wa’il] performs prayer with the Messenger (sallallaahu alayhi wasallam), When the Messenger (sallallaahu alayhi wasallam) reached “ghayr al-maghdubi ‘alayhim wala’l-dallin,” he said amin and kept his voice subdued (Musnad Ahmad,Daraqutni; al-Mustadrak, Nasb al-raya 1:494)

As you can see, the word ‘loudly’ is not in the hadith, and listen to the lies and deception of the Salafi scholars – how they add words to the matn, meaning the text of the hadith, in order to support their arguments.
Our Sheikh ul Hadith Mufti Abu Nauman Abdur Raheem Hafizullah CORRECTLY points out that the hadith mentions the word “say” in the hadith, that you must say “Ameen”, but it does not say “loudly”; therefore, you can say “Ameen” silently or faintly.
Whereas Dr. Zakir Naik alters the hadith by adding the word ‘LOUDLY’, which is not actually mentioned in the hadith. By adding or implying the word LOUDLY, they are indirectly trying to alter the MATN, i.e., the meaning of the Hadith.
