Amazing Urdu Talk on Ulama-e-Deoband.
What is Deoband, and what is the purpose of Deoband?
Deoband is not only the name of a city in India, home to the world-famous Dar Uloom Deoband, but also the name of those who follow the Deoband maslak.
In actual essence, Deoband and the Deobandis are proponents of the “Deen of Rasool Allah ﷺ مُحَمَّدٌ (Sollallahu ‘Alaihi Wasallam)”.
This is the true meaning of Deoband when we talk about the Deoband school of thought / Deoband Maslak.
What work have the scholars of Deoband done?
Scholars of Deoband have not created a new sect or deen but rather have strengthened the deen that was passed from Allah to Muhammad ﷺ مُحَمَّدٌ (Sollallahu ‘Alaihi Wasallam), from Muhammad ﷺ مُحَمَّدٌ to the Sahaba رضي الله عنه (Radi Allahu Anhu), and from the Sahaba رضي الله عنه (Radi Allahu Anhu) to the great Tabi’ Imam Abu Hanifa.
This is what Deoband is: it is the Al-Ṣirāṭ al-Mustaqīm (The Straight Path). The Path of Rasool Allah ﷺ مُحَمَّدٌ (Sollallahu ‘Alaihi Wasallam),
So DEOBAND = Ahle Sunnah wal Jamaa’ah
The Ahle Sunnah wal Jamaa’ah Deoband Muslims are hold fast to the Quran and the Sunnah (teachings and practices) of the Holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, as understood by his Companions, the Noble Sahaba (رضي الله عنهم) and the pious predecessors.
The Ahle Sunnah wal Jamaa’ah Deoband places great emphasis on the teachings and actions of the Holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, and the Noble Sahaba (رضي الله عنهم), especially the four caliphs, the rightly guided Khulafa e Rashideen, who led the Ummah from 632 to 661 CE, ie the “golden age” of Islamic history.
The 4 Caliphs, Khulafa e Rashideen, being
- Sayyiduna Hazrat Abu Bakr (Radhi Allahu ‘anhu – May Allah be pleased with him)
- Sayyiduna Hazrat Umar al Farooq (Radhi Allahu ‘anhu – May Allah be pleased with him)
- Sayyiduna Hazrat Uthman Gani (Radhi Allahu ‘anhu – May Allah be pleased with him) and
- Sayyiduna Hazrat Ali (Radhi Allahu ‘anhu – May Allah be pleased with him)
In addition, the Dar Uloom Deoband places great emphasis on the Fiqh of Imam Abu Hanifa. This is because the 4 Caliphs (Khulafa-e-Rashideen) and all the Noble Sahaba (رضي الله عنهم) NEVER wrote any books…
Imam Abu Hanifa, who is a Tabi‘i—meaning he is of the generation of Muslims after the companions of the Holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
A Prophet is

Imam Abu Hanifa is one of the individuals who met the Noble Sahaba (رضي الله عنهم). Therefore, Imam Abu Hanifa is a Tabi‘i. In addition, Imam Abu Hanifa is from the Khairul Quroon period, which is the best period after the period of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ & the Noble Sahaba (رضي الله عنهم), as per the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ hadeeth.

Imam Abu Hanifa and his students of Hanafi Fiqh place great emphasis on the prophetic tradition as transmitted by the first-generation Muslims. The Quran & Sunnah.
Because Imam Abu Hanifa is a Tabi‘i, he saw, met, and talked to many Sahaba ( (رضي الله عنهم) & direct relatives of Ahle Bayt (the family of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ).
Imam Abu Hanifa never met or saw the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, but through the methodology of careful observation and questioning of the Noble Sahaba (رضي الله عنهم) & Ahle Bayt, Imam Abu Hanifa was able to reach precise, evidence-based conclusions.
The actions of Sahaba & Ahle Bayt would never contradict those of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

If the Sahaba didn’t, Ahle Bayt didn’t, then it means the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ did not constantly do Rafa Yadayn etc etc etc
