What is Deoband & Purpose of Deoband

Amazing Urdu Talk on Ulama-e-Deoband.

Deoband is a town in UP, India. Deoband Town is famous for its large Islamic university that is empowering the next generation of Muslims.

The Darul Uloom Madrassa in Deoband, India, is the second most important centre for Islamic Learning after Jami’at al-Azhar (Al-Azhar University).

The Darul Uloom Deoband is a premier centre for Sunni Hanafi Islamic learning and teaching. Its purpose is to teach the Quran, Hadeeth, Fiqh & Sharia and to prepare future Ulama & leaders for today and tomorrow. Its influence stretches far beyond Deoband Town.

Its graduates are notable for spreading Islamic knowledge throughout the Ummah.

India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, the UK, the USA, Canada, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Malaysia, Afghanistan, etc., have large concentrations of Muslims who follow the teachings of Deoband.

Dar Uloom Deoband is an Ahle Sunnah wal Jamaa’ah institution (Sunni madrassa / Islamic university). All its teachings are according to the Quran and the Sunnah.

The Ahle Sunnah wal Jamaa’ah Deoband Muslims are hold fast to the Quran and the Sunnah (teachings and practices) of the Holy Prophet Muhammad , as understood by his Companions, the Noble Sahaba  (رضي الله عنهم) and the pious predecessors.

The Ahle Sunnah wal Jamaa’ah Deoband places great emphasis on the teachings and actions of the Holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, and the Noble Sahaba  (رضي الله عنهم), especially the four caliphs, the rightly guided Khulafa e Rashideen, who led the Ummah from 632 to 661 CE, ie the “golden age” of Islamic history.

The 4 Caliphs, Khulafa e Rashideen, being

  • Sayyiduna Hazrat Abu Bakr (Radhi Allahu ‘anhu – May Allah be pleased with him)
  • Sayyiduna Hazrat Umar al Farooq (Radhi Allahu ‘anhu – May Allah be pleased with him)
  • Sayyiduna Hazrat Uthman Gani (Radhi Allahu ‘anhu – May Allah be pleased with him) and
  • Sayyiduna Hazrat Ali (Radhi Allahu ‘anhu – May Allah be pleased with him)

In addition, the Dar Uloom Deoband places great emphasis on the Fiqh of Imam Abu Hanifa. This is because the above 4 Caliphs, Khulafa e Rashideen, and also all the Noble Sahaba  (رضي الله عنهم)  NEVER wrote any books…

Imam Abu Hanifa, who is a Tabi‘i—meaning he is of the generation of Muslims after the companions of the Holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

A Prophet is

GOD’s messenger on Earth

A Sahabi is

A person who met the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, or was in his presence, WHILE in a state of IMAAN…

A Tabi‘i is

A person who saw and met a Noble Sahaba  (رضي الله عنهم)

Imam Abu Hanifa is one of the individuals who met the Noble Sahaba  (رضي الله عنهم). Therefore, Imam Abu Hanifa is a Tabi‘i. In addition, Imam Abu Hanifa is from the Khairul Quroon period, which is the best period after the period of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ & the Noble Sahaba (رضي الله عنهم), as per the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ hadeeth.

Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said in this regard: “Honour my Sahaabah, for verily, they are your noblest; then those adjacent to them (Taabieen); then those adjacent to them (Tab-e-Taabieen). Thereafter falsehood will become manifest.”

Imam Abu Hanifa and his students of the Hanafi Fiqh place great emphasis on prophetic tradition as transmitted by those first-generation Muslims. The Quran & Sunnah.

Because Imam Abu Hanifa is a Tabi‘i, he saw, met, and talked to many Sahaba ( (رضي الله عنهم) & direct relatives of Ahle Bayt (the family of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ).

Imam Abu Hanifa never met or saw the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, but by the methodology of careful observation and questioning of Noble Sahaba  (رضي الله عنهم) & Ahle Bayt , Imam Abu Hanifa was able to come to a precise, evidence-based conclusions.

The actions of Sahaba & Ahle Bayt would never contradict those of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

SO

So When we read Namaz, and we NOT do Rafa Yadain, its because the Noble Sahaba  (رضي الله عنهم) & the Ahle Bayt (the family of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ) DID NOT DO RAFA YADAYN.

If the Sahaba didn’t,  Ahle Bayt didn’t, then it means the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ did not constantly do Rafa Yadayn etc etc etc

So When we read Namaz, and we NOT SAY AMEEN LOUNDLY, its because the Noble Sahaba  (رضي الله عنهم) & the Ahle Bayt (the family of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ) DID NOT SAY AMEEN LOUNDLY.

So When we read Namaz, and we not PUT HANDS ON CHEST LIKE WOMEN, its because the Noble Sahaba  (رضي الله عنهم) & the Ahle Bayt (the family of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ) did not PUT HANDS ON CHEST LIKE WOMEN

So When we read Namaz, and WE NOT PLACE FEET SIGNIFICANTLY APART, its because the Noble Sahaba  (رضي الله عنهم) & the Ahle Bayt (the family of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ) WE NOT PLACE FEET SIGNIFICANTLY APART.
